  • Originally this film was going to based on f1, sly was seen at quite a few f1 races in late 1990s get the feel fir f1, but it was changed for cart for some reason at the start if filming.

  • Apparently Stallone's original draft of the screenplay was 200 pages long. As someone with a screenwriting degree, one page equals one minute in the running time. Plus it didn't help that Stallone turned to Franchise Pictures (the dudes who previously produced Stallone's ill-advised remake of 'Get Carter' and John Travolta's Scientology vanity project 'Battlefield Earth') to get the film made.

  • @Josh Revell 'Driven' is just as unrealistic as 'Future GPX Cyber Formula' racing anime series...... especially on 'Saga' and 'Sin' OVA arc. Just look at how that Tanto guy tried to block another driver there in 7:41 , almost like Hayato Kazami's "Lifting Turn" Technique in the Cyber Formula anime which also involves hitting the kerb and flying the car. That's why both 'Driven' movie and 'Cyber Formula' anime were rubbish and never be on the race fans' conversation topics, because they never consider the laws of physics into the equation. Even Cars movie and Initial D had more realistic racing sequences even at the slightest of it , because at least the makers of Cars and the author of Initial D had consulted the experts on the course of making the respective arts; something that the people behind 'Driven' and 'GPX Cyber Formula' might not be doing. The early noughties really is the era where racing films with 'legitimate motorsport' setting were pretty much a downer (this, and Luc Besson's "Michel Vaillant" live action movie that was released in 2003 and taking the 2002 Le Mans 24 Hour race as the setting, was a huge downer) while the ones with 'street racing' setting were on the spotlight (thanks largely to 'The Fast and The Furious' and '2 Fast 2 Furious' movies).

  • As bad as this movie is, to me the biggest sin of it was IMHO the not the horrid script, characters, laughably unrealistic crashes and action scenes. Oh those were terrible no doubt, but what made really makes this movie such a disgrace is how Stallone did such a horrible representation of CART when making this movie. The fact he tried to keep the F1 script of his for this movie is just baffling. Why would he not make the changes necessary to fit the CART series is beyond me. Better yet, why didn't CART demand he change his script? Did they seriously think his F1 story was going to fit their series? On top of that, the tracks he picked for this movie was just really bad. Ok, Toronto and Motegi were alright since those were staples of the series. But... Chicago motor speedway? SERIOUSLY? Even back then, that track was horrid. Some made up German track? Uh... he couldn't picked something like Portland or even Surfers Paradise for that one? And Detroit as the series finale... UGH! I have no words to show my contempt for this. What was Stallone thinking here?! No Michigan? No Fontana? No Cleveland? Not even Milwaukee or Elkhart Lake? Seriously, this to me angers me than anything about this movie. All these iconic tracks of the CART series and we don't get any cool scenes from them in Driven! Inexcusable! Compare that to Days of Thunder and they showed quite a few of their iconic tracks during the movie, some of them having really good actions scenes in it too. Yea, the movie isn't that good overall and has some really cheesy and poor moments in it, but you know what? I still enjoy it because at least for all the Hollywood nonsense in it, it still felt like NASCAR when watching it. Driven? Other than the cars and engines, this movie didn't feel like CART much, if not at all.

  • They really lost me when drivers jumped into the cars at the party and drove away, with no seatbelts or lights, on city streets, and without the use of external starters. And since I used to work in F1, I was pretty sure the World Championship wasn't settled in CART . . .

  • After watching the Netflix series I’m convinced you could make a decent scripted movie/series about F1. But Driven was pretty awful.

  • Stallone was preparing for this movie for years and years before any script or filming actually began. It was originally set to be an F1 movie. Here he was being interviewed on the grid for the 1998 Hungarian GP, talking about the plan to make a racing movie. fiworld.info/goon/aYnTvnutyqGrma8/videot.html

  • Beau Brandenburg is portrayed by German actor Til Schweiger. Brandenburg is a German federal state next to/around Berlin. Berlin is where the German race was filmed. The race track/ex race track this was filmed on is the AVUS, which was used as an F1 and DTM track in the past. The AVUS is the fastest way of getting from Brandenburg to Berlin's inner ring (and the other way around). This little detail is great already. Imagine someone making up the names for this movie and then they come up with Mr. Brandenburg. Beau is french for "nice" so his name is basically "Nice Brandenburg" which is another layer of useless information that you can interpret
