Is Sebastian Vettel the driver Aston Martin needs?

135 069 Näkymät

It's official - Sebastian Vettel will be headed to Aston Martin and Sergio 'Checo' Perez is moving on. Despite all parties playing down the rumours, we now have many questions as 2021 draws nigh. Namely, where will Perez end up and is Vettel the correct man to take Aston Martin forward?

  • Seb's going to be driving a Tracing Point likely he'll do much better with the hardware. I don't think Seb has ever been comfortable in the Scuderia Fiat paddock. At least he'll get to practice his jaunty British accents to a more receptive crowd & not drive a car made of Russiansteel.

  • Forget that Aston needs, Seb needs a year off F1. Lad has been through enough mental trauma already and the F1 circus won't help him recover. I am afraid this decision is just a downward spiral for him, his peers from RedBull know, they asked him if he is okay and told him to take a year off.

  • Seriously, don't know. I particularly don't like Lance. Sergio is much better, Lance is good in taking advantage of odd GPS, when everything goes wrong or he is just lucky to be there, don't know. Also would like to ask one question.... what if Lance becomes a valuable driver? Would he ever leave his dad's team? Don't think that will happen anyway, but another point is what's Seb's role at the team? Just a brand boy and a car developer? I am quite sure he will demand equal terms and treatment.

  • Aston Martin? That’s the sort of commercial nonsense that Chapman started off when his team’s car became a cigarette. Aston Martin will have absolutely no input on the racing car aspect of this Spyker, sorry Force India, sorry Sahara Force India, sorry No Point At All Team. Or did Lotus chuck out the Cosworth V8 and install a tobacco burner, in which case, maybe Midland F1-Force-Spyker-Martin can have an Aston Cygnet powerplant?

  • To be honest Seb is very low on my list of drivers that I'd like to see become World Champion. Seb is still a good driver but he had his days, I'd prefer someone young like Verstappen, Leclerc, Sainz, Norris, Russel, even Bottas or Danny Ric to win. That said though it will be exciting to see how Aston and Seb do, especially after the reg changes.

  • As an American, we KIND of have a similar bit of history that happened over here semi-recently (late '00s,) so if you bear with me, I'll try and explain myself (it's 3am, so we'll see.) In the late 2000s in NASCAR, there was a former championship winning driver and former open wheel star by the name of Tony Stewart. His previous team, Joe Gibbs Racing, was moving on to a younger driver line up, bringing in former Hendrick Motorsports star Kyle Busch as well as straight up taking the #20 car out from under Tony, sponsorship and all, and giving it to an up and coming kid. At the same time, Gene Haas (yeah, that same Gene Haas) had decided he had seen enough of Haas CNC sucking at NASCAR and made the offer to Tony Stewart to jump ship. (The key difference here being that Stewart would be 50% owner of the team.) The connection I see here is this: Vettle and Stewart both have legions of fans (funnily enough, I'm part of both groups,) that came with them to their new teams. It was a guarantee that, even with growing pains of a new team, they would at least make money on merch and what-not. After a few years of inconsistency, in both the driver line up and mechanical woes Stewart found himself becoming champion again, and since then his team has become one of the power houses in American Motorsport across multiple different racing series. Will we see Aston Martin dethrone the top tier teams with Vettle? I say unlikely, but hey... That's why the race is on the track, not on paper...

  • There is no doubt that it is sad that Perez has to leave coz he didn't do anything wrong and helped save the team. On the other hand he is not showing any breathtaking performance either. Seb on the other hand always did great, don't forget that he is one of the most successful Ferrari drivers ever and the car never really was competitive. I guess it is a good move for AMR to hire him but next year we will know for certain or his career will be over.

  • Personally, i think getting Vettel aboard is the smart move Here. On multiple occasions both Vettel and Leclerc had massive Problems with the SF1000's Handling (as we all saw in italy). As such, if Aston Martin Makes him the no.1 Driver, i see some Potential for a contender. Especially knowing they Most likely get the Mercedes engines next season. It'll take time, but i think this might give him the Chance he needs. Only time will tell, though...

  • Aston Martin will be a mid-grid team next season. Therefore, they'll require scrappers in the driving seats to hustle results from congested midfield battles. As has been proven over the past few seasons, Vettel cannot be relied upon in these types of scenarios. Stick him out front with clean air, the fastest car and sure, he'll deliver wins. But put under any kind of pressure in a close quarters racing scenario and it'll end in a spin or intimate knowledge of the nearest barrier. Perez might be smarting now, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has the last laugh as Vettel lags behind Lance frickin Stroll in the standings next season.

Perez is a complete fighter he’s had to come through the ranks giving his all every race with below par .cars . Then he gets into a car with some guts and he’s doing good .Just to have it taken away from him by Vetal . Sorry Perez you deserved much better treatment than what you’ve been given . It looks like if you get a ride you’ll be back to square one . Such a shame . Good luck to you Perez .

  • I'm actually getting slightly annoyed about whole thing in general. Anything that has been happening at Racing Point during this season isn't really something that would be anything new in the world of F1. Hence I really don't get why people make such a big deal about it. For me it's crystal clear that as big old Lawro here pays the bills of course his own son is given the drive in favor of Checo. In this case, it's natural. To even expect of something else happening is plainly stupid and naive. Checo isn't the first and certainly won't be the last driver in the history of F1 to get a boot in favor of a driver who's considered of not being as good as the one who's getting the sack. Life isn't always fair. Not even in the mighty world of F1. I'm not gonna go any deeper to the "let's copy last year's Merc and paint it pink" case, but I'll just ask you this (as it's related to racing point as well) What did you expect? If anyone of you has been watching F1 for 10, 15, 25, 30 or 35+ years... Honestly tell me. Was this the first time? Definitely not. Is this gonna be the last time? Most definitely not. All this shit that has been going on with Racing Point's cars has been happened before! For a BAZILLION of times. So, it almost makes me cry in laughter when people are complaining about this whole thing. You know, it's kinda like the heart and soul of F1. To try to build a best possible car for your drivers at any costs and any means possible. Quite often this has included at least partially if not fully shady business when it comes to inventing new tech on your own and steal.. Ehm, copying the tech from your competition as well. Ugh, I've spoken...

Vettel has failed to keep the last 2 teams he has been at at the front of the grid. Why would anyone think Vettel will be able to drive a midfield team forward? It is pretty clear to me that Vettel is not a driver that can help a team develop their car.
